We carry you a particular version from the 77th worldwide theatre festival in the southern French metropolis of Avignon, the place change is within the air underneath its new Portuguese director Tiago Rodrigues. As the primary non-French chief to take the reins of the festival, Rodrigues has introduced in a majority of first-time performers and feminine administrators, and launched English as a visitor language. One of many British artists becoming a member of the line-up for the primary time this 12 months is actor, director and playwright Tim Crouch. He sat down with FRANCE 24’s Alison Sargent to speak about his experimental work exploring grief, know-how and the character of efficiency.

In the meantime, the festival’s opening night time put social justice centre stage, with an adaptation of the 1973 documentary “Welfare” and a roving dance efficiency choreographed by French hip-hop pioneer Bintou Dembélé.

Along with the official 44 exhibits, there are almost 1,500 happening within the fringe “Off” festival. FRANCE 24’s Natacha Milleret adopted one younger troupe as they made their debut at Avignon.
