Sunny War Seeks Peace on Anarchist Gospel

Sunny War has been one of 2023’s breakout artists. Her newest album, Anarchist Gospel, was launched in February to widespread acclaim, together with a spot on our Best Albums of the Year (So Far) listing.

Past music, activism has been an important half of War’s life. When she was homeless, War was the beneficiary of companies supplied by the Berkeley chapter of Meals Not Bombs, a collective that distributes free vegan and vegetarian meals to the hungry. Whereas residing in Los Angeles in 2019, she helped begin the downtown L.A. chapter of Meals Not Bombs. War needed to pay it ahead, figuring out that the group helped her when she was at a low level in her life.
